Life Builders change lives in KY and WV

People who needed their homes refurbished so they could live in them, people needing a bridge repaired so they could cross the stream to their home, others needing a working kitchen so they could cook,  a man with black lung needing home repairs,  a woman wanting a fence so others wouldn’t take advantage of her, finished bathrooms, repairs and replacements of leaking roofs, hauling trash, replacing rotted steps, building new homes for first time homeowners, all these were a part of our five weeks in Kentucky and West Virginia this summer.

Both areas reek of poverty, but are blessed with people who are super appreciative and kind. One older gentleman from the church in KY where our groups stayed, reserved the swimming  pool across the street for an evening swim—a great relief from the scorching heat. Others cried as our teens approached their homes because they knew we were coming to help them. One elderly woman said she prayed for nearly 15 years for someone to come—she called our teenagers from Conestoga PA and NY “angels from the Lord.”

The lives of our Mission Work Campers were changed also. Through the devotionals (that were written by our teenagers), and our four keynote speakers and the working of the Holy Spirit throughout all the weeks, there were at least 15 salvations, and many others who rededicated their lives and still others who pledged a more public demon-stration of their faith in their families, schools and places where they work.

We wish to thank Wilhemine Lysinger from Christ Lutheran Niantic for donating three boxes of her lovely handmade quilts so the families in WV can be much warmer this winter. We also extend thanks to this congregation for all the effort they put into working toward a $2,300 grant that we received from Thrivent Lutheran.
